Enhance the Appearance of Your Facility with Interior and Exterior Painting

When it comes to improving the look of your facility, painting the interior and exterior walls, alongside the ceiling, is one of the most effective ways to boost your space’s appeal. If you’re already planning to paint your ceiling, it's an ideal time to tackle the walls as well. With much of the preparation already done and access equipment on-site, painting both at the same time can save you time and costs.

After painting the ceiling, any imperfections in the walls become more noticeable. Issues like dirty, yellowed, or scraped walls can diminish the overall appearance of your facility. Here’s why you should consider painting the walls:

Industrial Painting at perfect quality

Paint Types & Materials

Choosing the right paint depends on your wall surfaces and the environment:

  • Common Coatings: Semi-gloss or gloss white paints, usually in alkyd or latex resin, are commonly used.

  • Epoxy Paints: For more durability and chemical resistance, epoxy paints are ideal. Keep in mind, however, that they can yellow with age.

  • Pressure Washing: If regular cleaning is required, epoxy paint is the best choice for handling the stress of pressure washing and chemical cleaning.

For bare, unpainted walls:

  • Primer: A suitable primer is essential, especially for industrial cinder or concrete block walls. In food manufacturing environments, using a block filler primer is critical for hygiene. It ensures the finish is free of pinholes, preventing bacteria growth.

For mold or mildew concerns:

  • Mildew and Mold-resistant Coatings: These are available for added protection. Good ventilation is equally important to reduce moisture and avoid mold buildup.

Low-Odor Coatings

  • Food Industry: Low-odor alkyd coatings are ideal when working near food products, such as in dairy facilities. These coatings prevent any contamination from odors.

Adhesion & Durability

  • Epoxy Paints: These have the strongest adhesion and offer the best chemical resistance. They are especially useful in cooler environments where low temperatures are present.

  • Latex Paints: While more affordable, latex paints are not as durable as epoxy coatings.

Color Considerations

  • Dark Colors: Darker or more vibrant colors require more coats because they have lower hiding capabilities. While these paints are more expensive, factory-tinted colors generally provide better coverage, reducing the number of coats needed.

  • White Paint: Most manufacturing facilities use white paint for the majority of their walls. For added aesthetics, darker colors are often used as accent stripes or for the lower part of the walls, which are more prone to dirt and wear.

Note: Over time, white walls may yellow, particularly in environments with oil mists. This is a normal occurrence, and though the discoloration may be noticeable, it usually occurs uniformly.

Surface Preparation

Before painting, wall preparation may involve:

  • Scraping

  • Washing with cold or hot water

  • Dry ice blasting or sandblasting

  • Solvent washing

Safety Consideration: Always ensure that nearby electrical systems are protected when using water in preparation, as exposure can lead to temporary electrical issues.
